Abstract
The purpose of this action research was to determine the impact of restorative justice practices on a middle school classroom. The researcher utilized restorative justice practices including daily observations, restorative circles, peer mediation, and conflict resolution strategies. Over the course of six weeks, the researcher monitored progress using behavior logs, student surveys, and behavioral reflections. The research was conducted to determine the effect that these practices have on classroom climate, student behavior and relationships between peers and teachers. The researcher is a 6th grade Science teacher in her sixth year of teaching. The findings revealed an increase in positive behaviors, while creating an improved classroom climate, and a decline in peer conflicts and classroom disruptions. This research was conducted to discover a more impactful classroom management system for future classroom practices by integrating restorative justice.
