Description
In 1924, an early Sioux County, Iowa settler named Gerrit Draayom wrote down his memories. The local Dutch-language newspaper, De Volksvriend, published Draayom's account. A number of years later, the work was translated from Dutch to English by Nella Kennedy.
Draayom's memoir covers settlement, Orange City's founders and leaders, challenges faced by the pioneers such as grasshoppers and blizzards, and each township in the county.
