Abstract

Studies have shown that trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) play a significant role in student’s abilities to function both academically and behaviorally at school. Through the use of trauma-informed teaching strategies, teachers are able to better assist students in coping with their past or current traumas and understand that their behavior may be a result of their experiences. Trauma-informed teaching provides an abundance of benefits for both students and educators when implemented with fidelity. With these important research findings in mind, this school improvement plan was created to administer system-wide trauma-informed teaching training and strategies to support students who have experienced trauma.
