Abstract

In early childhood education, the benefits of play-based learning are widely recognized. Research indicates that it has a significant impact on a child’s social-emotional development, literacy skills, and mathematics. Within the West Elementary building at Knoxville Community School District, studies suggest that children could benefit from more time spent in play-based learning activities. This school improvement plan outlines the steps necessary to increase the time dedicated to play-based learning in transitional kindergarten and kindergarten classrooms. By implementing these strategies, the district aims to enhance student engagement and overall academic achievement.
