Abstract

The De Beer/De Boer Family Collection spans 130 years of family history in Sioux County, Iowa. The De Beer/De Boer family are descendants of the pioneer E. J. G. Bloemendaal. The collection highlights Christian educational material both in school and church, includes a scrapbook about a serviceman’s military career in World War II, and also shows the progression of landowning by farmers in Sioux County. Family photographs depict day-to-day 19th-century farm life, especially children playing outdoors. There are also 18 personal letters written by Gerhard and Ann Scholten (in Dutch) from Chicago in 1883.
