Abstract
Scene design is a crucial part of a successful production: the work shown provides clues to a play’s location, time period, mood, and many other facets prior to actors telling the story. In this past winter’s production of Silent Sky, I had the opportunity to learn and experience the design process from start to finish. Various steps of the process included image research, reading the script (more than once), sketching out construction plans, collaborating with the director and other designers, creating digital and physical models of the set, and much more. Through this, I was able to learn the successes – as well as the failures – that taught me the scene design process.
