Abstract
Cornelius Vande Steeg was born in Alton, Iowa, to Cornelius and Mary (Van Ee) Vande Steeg and raised in Hospers, Iowa. He was a graduate of University of Iowa Law School. He married Fannie Lewis (1897-1970) in 1918; following her death, he married Sadie Cambier (1899-1982) in 1972. He served as city attorney and mayor for Orange City, and he maintained membership in the Iowa State Bar Association until his death. Collection includes legal documents such as homesteading and warranty deeds, bills and notes, wills, certificates of naturalization, a case about cattle rustling in 1885, and three pages of typed reminiscences. Bills are from Parlin, Orendorff & Martin; Andrew Vos; General Merchandise; and Lankelma Bros. Coal & Ice.
