Abstract

The Northwestern Classical Academy (NWCA) subgroup of the Northwestern College Record Group (NCRG) documents the life of the earliest NWC institution. The records include various founding documents, catalogs, sermons, addresses, photocopies of newspaper articles, and photographs. Also included are anniversary materials and histories of the academy in particular. Collectively, these archives provide evidence for the origins and developments of faith-based education in the Dutch American settlements of northwestern Iowa, southwestern Minnesota, Nebraska, and the Dakotas, including the educational vision and commitments of the Dutch Reformed colonists.
